Why Ariabecco discs enhance a wine brand’s market positioning

World Patent awarded to Chris Rossouw for novel aerator

Wine-lovers truly understand the value of aeration. Both red and white wines have their imbedded flavours opened-up exponentially after being exposed to oxygen. Ariabecco designer Chris Rossouw was looking for an easier way to decant a bottle of wine (particularly whilst flying on a long-haul business trip).

Conventional aerators are more practical, but that would mean that wine-lovers would have to carry little wine gizmos around with them wherever they travel. Chris then worked on ways that could aerate the wine whilst pouring, by simply agitating the flow from the bottleneck into the glass. Minding to always keep it small, simple and cheap. Many months of passion resulted in a simple reusable disc that can create the desired level of aeration whilst pouring. The Ariabecco aerating disc was born.

Ariabecco -air spout in Italian – is indicative of what they do to each bottle of wine. After extensive testing at the Vinlab Laboratories in Stellenbosch, it was found that quite remarkably up to 68% aeration is instantly possible each time the disc is used. Chris, buoyed by the results, then set out to patent this design in order to introduce it to the market around the world for all wine-lovers to enjoy.

After an exhaustive process in Austria, a World Patent was issued. There is no product in existence anywhere in the world that operates the same way. The discs are light enough to be carried anywhere; cheap enough to be added to any bottle of wine; effective enough to mitigate the need for decanting; and simple enough for everyone to be able to use in any environment from an international flight, a picnic, a restaurant or home after a long day at work.
